West Linn-Wilsonville School and meals canceled for Friday
The fourth day of the 2020-21 school year has been canceled for students in West Linn and Wilsonville.
"Due to the changing wildfire conditions, need for a growing number of staff members to evacuate or prepare for evacuation, and hazardous air quality in both of our communities, all West Linn-Wilsonville schools will be closed tomorrow, September 11," a Thursday afternoon email from Superintendent Kathy Ludwig said. "This means that no lessons will be posted for tomorrow and students will not be expected to attend class."
Fires have ravaged Clackamas County since Tuesday, when school began, forcing all of Clackamas County into evacuation, or evacuation-ready phases. The smoke and fires also delayed pickup of school materials for several WL-WV schools this week.
The district, which offered weekday lunches to community youth since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, said it would be unable to provide them Sept. 11.
Ludwig's email states the district hopes to resume both school and meal service Monday, Sept. 14.
