Santa Claus is coming to West Linn
Despite his busy schedule this time of year, Santa Claus has found the time to visit West Linn Dec. 4 and 5. Old St. Nick will be at the city of West Linn's Candy Cane Lane, a drive-thru holiday display at the Adult Community Center, from 6-7:30 p.m. on both days.
Since Santa still has lots to do before his big day, he's bringing with him Mrs. Claus and Buddy the Elf (made famous in the 2003 Christmas film), to help sort through the naughty and nice list.
West Linn invites its residents to travel through the "seven levels of the candy cane forest and past the sea of swirly-twirly gumdrops" and enjoy "beautiful lights, festive characters and the magic of the holidays from the comfort and safety of your car," according to the Parks and Recreation Department.
The city hosted a similar drive-thru at the ACC for Halloween, and after its wild popularity decided to add an extra night for the Christmas-themed event.
Recreation coordinator Dawn Kolb said that those who visit Candy Cane Lane are encouraged to wear their favorite holiday pajamas, bring hot chocolate and decorate their car.
West Linn Police will help direct traffic during the event and are expected to close Rosemont Road.
The event is free, but the city encourages those who attend to bring nonperishable food to donate to the West Linn Food Pantry — which may even help those on the edge secure a place on Santa's nice list.
