Snow and ice closes steep hills to traffic; public works de-ices hilly streets.

The National Weather Service reported about 1.5 inches of snow in West Linn as of Friday morning, and projected as many as two more inches could accumulate in the Portland area over the weekend.

Marylhurst Drive from Hillcrest Drive to Lower Midhill Drive, Hidden Springs Road from Bluegrass Way to Cottonwood Court, Pimlico Drive from Palomino Way to Willamette Drive, Summit Street from Rosemont Road to Skyline Drive, 12th Street from Tualatin Avenue to Volpp Street and Skye Parkway from Troon Drive to Hillside Drive were all closed as of 9:45 a.m.

The city also advised that side streets are slick as well and asked residents to stay home if at all possible.

Temperatures in West Linn are not predicted to rise above freezing until Saturday.

West Linn Public Works announced it would use magnesium chloride de-icer on hills throughout the city.
