The West Linn Tidings recently welcomed Mia Ryder-Marks as its new education reporter.

Ryder-Marks joined the team in September. She will cover both the Lake Oswego School District and the West Linn-Wilsonville School District for Pamplin Media Group.

"I've really enjoyed meeting new people, and am looking forward to sharing the community's stories," she said. Ryder-Marks

A native of Winnipeg in the Manitoba province of Canada, Ryder-Marks earned her bachelor's degree at the University of Winnipeg before moving to Oregon to earn her master's degree in journalism from the University of Oregon. Prior to joining Pamplin Media Group, she interned with the Capital Press in Salem as part of the Charles Snowden Program for Excellence in Journalism.

"We are thrilled to have Mia join our team to help keep our readers informed about important news related to our schools," said Tidings publisher J. Brian Monihan. "We understand the value of providing education news coverage in Lake Oswego, West Linn and Wilsonville. We just wish we could provide more. Until the economy improves and we see increases in our advertising revenues, we'll ask Mia to do the best she can in covering all our communities each week."

In her free time, Ryder-Marks enjoys reading, cooking ("I make a mean lasagna") and watching horror movies.

"Education coverage has always been an essential component of our community journalism, and Mia brings an impressive skillset to the table," editor Patrick Malee said. "She has already hit the ground running and we're very excited to welcome her to our team."
