At the Willamette Park splash pad, siblings Carson, 4, and Kaija, 2, took delight in running through the spouting water.

During the heatwave, West Linn and other municipalities are opening up local facilities as cooling shelters. The West Linn Adult Community Center, which has served as one of those cooling centers this week, is closed Saturday and Sunday. But residents can still cool off at the West Linn Public Library. While the library is usually open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends, staff extended hours until 7 p.m., offering limited library services, to keep the building open as a cooling center.

The library does not take pets but a list of other cooling centers can be found at clackamas.us/relief#otheroptionsPMG PHOTO: HOLLY BARTHOLOMEW - Izzy, 13, jumps into the river from the Bernert Landing dock at Willamette Park.
