Dispatch received calls about heavy black smoke coming from a two-story building behind Parkrose Hardware shortly before 5 p.m. Friday.

Firefighters searched the under-construction residential building and found no one inside, and shifted to attacking the fire from outside. One firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation and heat exposure.

Firefighters managed to oust the fire in about an hour, but remained on scene to manage hot spots.

West Linn Police Department responded to the scene as well.
