I want to share with you some of the great things happening in West Linn this summer and encourage you to attend as many as SUBMITTED - Carson

Farmers markets

With the great weather and plentiful sunshine, our local farmers markets are off to amazing starts. I have enjoyed spending Wednesday evenings checking out the market offerings, eating dinner at neighborhood restaurants and meeting neighbors in our historic Willamette area. We are fortunate to also have a Saturday market at the Historic Willamette General Store. If you haven’t had a chance to visit either market yet, please plan a shopping trip soon for fresh vegetables, great food and even better camaraderie.

Street dance

The West Linn Street Dance is Saturday. The evening begins at 5 p.m. with John English - aka “The Voice” - with a tribute to Frank Sinatra. Then at 6:30, Mag Hughes will perform a juggling routine that your kids will love. And the dancing begins at 8 with the band Pressure Point as the featured artist. Food vendors will be available and this event is for the whole family. It takes place on Willamette Falls Drive; please note that the street is closed for the dance.

Old Time Fair

The West Linn Old Time Fair is next weekend. I hope I will see you at the carnival, at one of the music main stages or at the Parade on Saturday, July 20, at 10 a.m. This festival is West Linn’s oldest special event and is an unofficial reunion for everyone who grew up in our community. The fair begins on Friday, July 19, and runs through Sunday, July 21, at Willamette Park.

Centennial celebration

I am most excited about the three-day birthday party West Linn is planning for its centennial. On Aug. 15, celebrate our birthday at a party at Music in the Park featuring Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts at 6 p.m. at Tanner Creek Park. On Aug. 16, enjoy “100 Years of Music” at Hammerle Park at 6 p.m. And on Aug. 17, celebrate at Mary S. Young State Park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a pet parade, jugglers, tree dancers, musical performers, a Centennial museum, food vendors and more family fun activities. That night will include the first ever campout in Mary S. Young State Park, so reserve your campsite today.

I hope you enjoy your summer in West Linn as much as I plan to.I especially want to thank all the dedicated volunteers and city staff that help make all these events possible.
