Measuring the risk of politics and a few words about finding our moral compass

I can beat Schrader in 2020

As I look at the Republican candidates for Oregon's 5th Congressional District, I ask myself, can any of the announced candidates beat Kurt Schrader?

The answer is sadly, no. I haven't decided on running or not. What I do know is this: Unlike other announced candidates, I would mop the floor with Schrader. Mr. Nations is a nut job. To win, you need a professional operation and $1.5 million. I can do it, but again, I am hesitant.

Student columnist hit the proverbial nail

I don't recall the last time I jumped from my chair, raised a fist, and shouted "YES!" after reading an article in The West Linn Tidings, but Wallace Milner's "What we the people are owed" ("School Notes," May 23) resonated deep within my soul.

We as a nation have lost our moral compass. Milner sweeps away the smokescreen cloaking America's better self, and shows us the path forward—up from the muck and mire of greed and duplicity, and into a future where, if we the people pull together and share the fruits of our labor, "there is nothing we cannot achieve."

Thank you, Wallace Milner. Thank you, West Linn Tidings.
