Removal of city manager a mistake
I am outraged at Councilors Cummings, Sakelik and Relyea's decision to fire the City Manager without cause.
This action is another example of wasteful spending in a time of budget shortfalls. While the city is cutting staff and services, the council can expect to spend well over $100,000 on a separation agreement. This is stunning to me as a taxpayer!
A change in West Linn's city manager for the second time in four years will continue to perpetuate the dysfunctional reputation of our city council which then is projected to all the regional players and leaders at a time when the city is seeking transportation funds and grants. At the same time, removing the city manager only serves to distract from city business.
West Linn will now be paying a headhunter many tens of thousands of dollars in search of a new city manager, and the council will be tied up interviewing perspective candidates.
This is just another example of the inability of this council to govern and move forward in addressing the needs of our community. I want to acknowledge Mayor Axelrod and Councilor Walters continued efforts to work in a collaborative and professional manner with our city manager and staff. It is this valued team approach that speaks to effective governance.
