Our community needs us. I want to be one of the people who steps up and cares for it.

I've lived here for the past 25 years and I'm so thankful I get to call this place home. I spent my childhood playing in our forests and hanging out on our rivers. High school was spent in southern Oregon. College in Salem and now my wife, Leslie, and I are raising our four energetic boys in West Linn.Estep

I love this place, from the coast to the high desert, the trees and the mountains. Can anyone really get over this PNW paradise? This is an unexpectedly wonderful place. And like all the good things in life, it's a gift. Our district especially is full of fantastic schools, wonderful libraries and community centers, places that bring residents together. I've spent time in all these places and love the neighbors with whom I have built relationships.

But there are obvious needs. Our government needs to be humble, doing only what is necessary and doing it exceptionally well. We need to be careful with resources like forests and taxes. Our cities need to be secure and our neighbors safe. Our schools and institutions need to be transparent and welcoming, allowing the community to see and speak to them. And seeing so many of my neighbors living in tents along the streets breaks my heart.

Our status quo has allowed and made these needs more obvious. Our home has been left unattended. Our home needs stewards.

Our community needs us. I want to be one of the people who steps up and cares for it. That's why I am running to represent District 37 in the Oregon House of Representatives. We can't leave the things we care about unattended, and I'm eager to help steward the things we all share.

People jumping in together is how a community is cared for. I invite you to join in this great work of serving our community. You can connect at and on Twitter @aericestep. I look forward to serving you, my neighbors!
