The Lions upend first-place Clackamas and handle Lakeridge

West Linn's softball team closed out the regular season on a high note, becoming the only team this season to beat Clackamas and then downing Lakeridge to complete a season sweep of the Pacers.

Against the Cavaliers, Sarah Von Ahn did a little bit of everything. She held Clackamas to just one run, which came in the top of the first inning.

She also belted a lead-off home run in the second inning as West Linn's offense racked up hits in bunches.

In the bottom of the first, back-to-back doubles by Mackenzie Hartdegen and Katie Wells helped put the Lions up 3-1.

Von Ahn's home run got the offense started again in the bottom of the second.

Briana Barzola and Maddi Higgins each singled with no outs. Caroline Freiling added an RBI groundout and Hartdegen doubled again to bring in a run. She would later come around to score to make it 7-1.

In the bottom of the third, Freiling notched another RBI on a sacrifice fly which plated Von Ahn.

Hartdegen then hit a ball that was misplayed and scored two more runs which upped the score to 10-1.

A Barzola single in the fourth inning put the Lions up by 10 runs and Von Ahn had a chance to end the game in the fifth, if she could keep Clackamas scoreless again.

The Cavaliers loaded the bases with one out but a line drive was speared by Hallie Olmstead at third base for a game-ending double play.

West Linn then wrapped up the regular season with an 8-2 victory over Lakeridge.

The Pacers scored both of their runs in the bottom of the first and led 2-1 heading into the fourth inning.

West Linn's bats then came to life. A walk by Wells and singles from Hanna Siciliani and Leah Beyer loaded the bases with no outs.

Then, with one out, Barzola knocked a two-run double. Higgins followed with and RBI single and Freiling added a two-run double to make it 6-2.

That would be all the offense West Linn would need the rest of the way. Von Ahn retired 11 straight batters from that point and the Lions tacked on two more runs, the last of which came on a home run by Freiling.

West Linn will now travel for its opening playoff game.
