West Linn, competing in the Kelso River Bash tournament last weekend, won five games in two days and placed second overall.

The 9-year-old Lions won their first five games at Kelso before falling in the championship game to Longview.

But West Linn wouldn't have even made it to the title game without some late-inning heroics in its semifinal.

Hudson Giboney delivered the big hit in that game, a two-run double that scored Henry Curdy and Caleb Carney as the Lions came from behind to beat Black Hills, Wash., 8-5.

Despite their second-place finish in Kelso, the 9U all-stars are still an impressive 14-1 on the season.
