The Lions will face Oregon City for the title on Saturday at Clackamas High School

The West Linn eighth-grade football team scored 28 unanswered points to defeat Newberg 34-13 in the second round of the Silver playoffs on Saturday.

Next up, the Lions (7-3) will play Oregon City for the title at noon Saturday at Clackamas High School.

West Linn scored first on a nifty 31-yard touchdown run by Rochne Beecham, which completed a long drive engineered by quarterback Chase Harmon. The Lions fell behind, however, when the Tigers scored twice late in the half.

But an inspired halftime speech by head coach Ray Pearson and two great defensive plays changed the momentum early in the second half. Zach Johnson's interception led to a short TD run by running back Kace Naone.

West Linn then took the lead for good moments later after Miles Ward's recovery of the ensuing kickoff. Beecham cashed in on the chance with a 30-yard burst untouched through a gaping hole in the left side of the line.

Two more interceptions, by Naone and Avery McCormick, and scoring runs from quarterback Zeke Viuhkola and Naone completed a dominating second half in which West Linn controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.
