The Lions rally from a 24-0 deficit only to fall short in 24-22 loss to Oregon City

The West Linn eighth-grade football team started slow, came back strong and eventually fell just short in a 24-22 loss to Oregon City in the Silver championship game on Nov. 18.

After two fumbles contributed to a 24-0 deficit late in the first half, West Linn finally came alive. Anthony Aguirre got the Lions on the scoreboard with a 20-yard touchdown catch and Zeke Viuhkola ran in the extra point, shaving the Pioneers' lead to 24-8 at halftime.

The Lions roared again in the second half, especially on defense, where Rochne Beecham, Eric Mee, Jake Rams, Zach Johnson and Kace Naone blunted OC drives again and again. Second-and-long and third-and-longer characterized the second half for the Pioneers.

Meanwhile, the Lions' offense started to click with Chase Harmon at quarterback. Passes to Naone and Johnson, and tough running from Naone and Beecham, produced two scores and one extra point, leaving West Linn two points from a tie.

The Lions then tried an onside kick in the final minute to no avail.
