The Lions finished the season undefeated after beating the Sherwood JV team on Feb. 16 at West Linn High School.

After being tested in overtime by Tualatin a week earlier, West Linn made sure this game wasn't close. The Lions' starters built the lead to 19-4 after the first quarter, and the subs that took over in the second period came in full of energy and extended the lead to 31-14 by halftime.

Coach Alex Soberanis told his players to play hard because most of them only get to play two quarters at the JV level, saving three quarters for varsity action.

The Lions made six 3-pointers the first half, led by the hot hands of Katie Schoenborn and Audrey Roden. Payton Shelsted and Alyx Burkhartzmeyer helped put on a relentless press that had Sherwood second guessing its passes and shots.

In the third quarter, the Lions came out with quick baskets by Cami Fulcher and Paige Lemons before going inside to Vanessa Viuhklola and Anna Strobbe. Sherwood came back with six straight points so Soberanis decided to put the press back on. The swarming defensive pressure from K.C. Bromley and Jordan Sellah helped push the lead back to 44-22 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Elisabeth Dombrow drove the ball to the basket and earned easy points at the free throw line. Another promising Lion freshmen, Logan Murai, entered the game in the final period and added three rebounds to a team total of 27 rebounds versus 17 for Sherwood.

Soberanis, who has only lost two games in his two years, said he was sad to see the JV season come to an end, adding that he loves the energy and unselfish play his team brought every week.
