Willamette United Football Club recently announced that West Linn High School seniors Alyx Burkhartzmeyer, Erin Kelly, Katie Schoenborn and Hannah Burk will each receive a $1,000 2019 Willamette United Roger Hepburn College Scholarship.

She was a first-team all-league goalkeeper in 2017 and a second-teamer in 2018. She was a three-year starter and helped lead the team to a state semifinal appearance in her senior year.

In school, Alyx was a member of the Lion's Den (minimum 3.5 GPA), an Honor Graduate and Vice President of the National Music Honor Society. She also volunteers at the Oregon Food Bank.

Erin Kelly graduates with a GPA of 4.35 and is a member of the National Honor Society. Erin was the starting goalkeeper for her Oregon Premier soccer team and she has committed to play soccer and attend school at Chapman University.

She was a member of the National Honor Society, Music Honor Society and she has been accepted to the West Point Summer Leadership Experience.

She has served on a nine-week mission trip in Cape Town, South Africa, was a Unity Day Workshop Leader and she raises guide dog puppies for "Guide Dogs For The Blind."

In 2013, the staff and Board of Directors of Willamette United decided to award a college scholarship on an annual basis to a deserving Willamette United soccer player. The scholarship is awarded to high school seniors based on their academic accomplishments, soccer accomplishments and community service. Applicants must be graduating seniors and have played a majority of their soccer career with Willamette United, including a minimum of five years of youth soccer.

The first recipient was Elyse Laurin, and due to the incredible applications the club received in that first year, Willamette United decided to award more than one scholarship in future years. In 2014, WUFC decided it would award a scholarship to a recreational and classic player every year. That was also the year that the scholarship was renamed the Willamette United Roger Hepburn College Scholarship in honor of longtime volunteer coach Roger Hepburn who was killed in a car accident that year.

The Hepburn family made a generous donation to the fund in Roger's name. Since 2013, WUFC has had over 75 applicants and awarded over $20,000 in college scholarships. The funds for this scholarship come in part from a generous sponsorship from Directors Mortgage.
