West Linn pitcher Kyle Sullivan accepts scholarship offer from University of Portland
West Linn junior Kyle Sullivan has already proven himself to be one of the top pitchers in the Three Rivers League.
Now, with two years still to go in his high school career, he's already setting his sights on the next level.
Sullivan, who was an all-TRL honorable mention selection a year ago, recently accepted a scholarship to continue his athletic career in college at the University of Portland.
"I think it's a good fit for him," said West Linn coach Joe Monahan.
Sullivan is a 6-foot-2, 199-pound right-handed pitcher. After his graduation from West Linn in 2021, Sullivan will join a Pilots team that went 23-26 overall in 2019, including a 7-19 mark and eighth-place finish in the West Coast Conference.
"Kyle's a competitor. He works hard and there's nothing he won't do to get better," Monahan said. "He's a quick learner and an aggressive pitcher."
With the Lions' 2019 team, Sullivan went 5-0 with a 3.2 earned run average to help his team win the Three Rivers League at 13-5, go 19-10 overall and reach the Class 6A state quarterfinals. In his work with Baseball Northwest, Sullivan's fastball has been measured with a top velocity of 86 miles per hour.
"That's a pretty good year for a sophomore," Monahan added.
