PMG PHOTO: MILES VANCE - West Linn junior outside hitter Audra Wilmes was named to the all-Three Rivers League first team after leading her team to a TRL title and a fifth-place finish at the Class 6A state tournament. The West Linn volleyball team was right there.

Right there with the best teams in the Three Rivers League, right there with the best teams in the 32-team playoff bracket and right there with the best teams in the Class 6A state tournament.

West Linn won the 2019 TRL championship, won twice in the state playoffs to reach the state tournament, then finished fifth among eight teams there, closing its year with a 23-7 overall record.

In response, the Lions were richly rewarded in the 2019 Three Rivers League all-star voting.

Junior outside hitter Audra Wilmes was named to the all-TRL first team (she later was a unanimous first-team all-tournament selection), sophomore outside hitter Emily Warmenhoven and junior libero Lily Snook were selected to the second team, and senior outside hitter Claire Matthiessen and junior setter Kate Griffin earned spots on the Honorable Mention team.

"Audra, Emily and Claire were three hitters I knew could count on to always get through a block," said West Linn coach Emilie Wilmes. "Kate helped lead the offense and Lily, being our libero, led the team in digs and (gave us) great energy on the court."

Audra Wilmes is a three-year varsity player who hit .382 on the season, totaling over 400 kills and over 200 digs. Warmenhoven made her second varsity season a keeper, finishing with more than 300 kills for the season and hitting .330. And Snook stepped up to record more than 300 digs and 50 aces in her second varsity season.

Matthiessen, a four-year varsity player, finished 2019 with more than 100 kills, hitting a .260 and notching more than 20 blocks. And Griffin led the team in her third varsity season with 536 assists.

Canby junior outside hitter Daley McLellan was named TRL Player of the Year, while Canby's T.J. Schlatter was selected as Coach of the Year.
