Vonleh is named Player of the Year, while Fulcher is Defensive Player of the Year

PMG PHOTO: MILES VANCE - West Linn junior post Aaronette Vonleh was named Three Rivers League Player of the Year for 2019-20 after averaging 17 points and eight rebounds per game this season. The 2019-20 season ended too early for all of Oregon's best Class 6A girls basketball teams.

For those that advanced to the eight-team state tournament, fears over the spread of COVID-19 ended their year on March 11-12. For West Linn's girls — the state's third-ranked team — the season came to an end just a game earlier.

While that was an unmitigated disappointment, the Lions had much to celebrate this year, winning the Three Rivers League outright for the first time in decades and reaping the rewards from that success in the all-Three Rivers League voting.

West Linn saw junior Aaronette Vonleh named TRL Player of the Year, junior Cami Fulcher named Defensive Player of the Year, and junior Audrey Roden also named to the all-TRL first team.

Junior Payton Shelstad won a berth in the all-TRL honorable mention team.

Vonleh, a 6-foot-3 post, earned her spot as Player of the Year after averaging 17.2 points per game and 8.2 rebounds per game.

"Aaronette is a unique talent in the state of Oregon and one of the best posts in the country," said West Linn coach Brooke Cates, whose team went 13-1 to win the TRL and 20-6 overall before losing in the second round of the state playoffs. "She is athletic, has great hands and is a fantastic finisher at the rim."

Fulcher, a 5-8 point guard and team captain, averaged 8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game, and proved herself to be a force on the other end of the court, too.

"Cami Fulcher was the glue of (our) team this season," Cates said. "(She was) a tenacious defender who was often given the task of locking down our opponent's best player, which she did very well."

Roden, a 5-9 guard, used her deadly outside shooting and ability to attack the basket to amass 17.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.8 steals per game.

"Audrey is a crafty, athletic and super-skilled offensive player who has amazing 3-point range and can also get to the rim at will," Cates said. "She is also a fierce competitor."

And Shelstad — a 5-8 wing and team captain — averaged 5.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.

"Payton is a threat offensively both shooting the 'three' and attacking the rim," Cates added. "She is also an excellent defender and has great anticipation, which leads to many deflections."
