West Linn's Aaronette Vonleh earns first-team all-state honors
There's no two ways about it — Oregon's best Class 6A girls basketball players left the 2020 season with unfinished business.
When Oregon's response to the novel coronavirus pandemic forced cancellation of the Class 6A state tournament at its midway point, many of those players felt that their seasons were missing an end point. But the recent announcement of the Class 6A all-state teams will help provide one.
In the process, West Linn Aaronette Vonleh added another honor to her stellar junior season when she was named to the all-state first team. Vonleh, a 6-foot-3 post who was previously named Three Rivers League Player of the Year, earned her spot after averaging 17.2 points per game and 8.2 rebounds per game.
"Aaronette is a unique talent in the state of Oregon and one of the best posts in the country," said West Linn coach Brooke Cates, whose team went 13-1 to win the TRL and 20-6 overall before losing in the second round of the state playoffs. "She is athletic, has great hands and is a fantastic finisher at the rim."
Mountainside senior Cameron Brink and Southridge senior McKelle Meek were named co-Players of the Year, while Beaverton's Kathy Adelman Naro and Liberty's Melanie Wagoner were named co-Coaches of the Year.
