The last time West Linn High School fans saw Garrett Jackson, he was doing everything at high speed for the Lions boys soccer and track teams.
In soccer, he was an all-Three Rivers League midfielder who led West Linn to a TRL co-championship and into the Class state quarterfinals.
In track, Jackson was a district runner-up in the 400 meters and a third-place finisher in the 4 x 400 relay who went on to place sixth in the 400 at the Class 6A state meet and seventh as part of the Lions 4 x 400 team.
As it turns out, Jackson has just kept on running since then.
Now a sophomore at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, Jackson is a member of both the Cardinals men's soccer and men's track and field teams.
In track, his 4 x 100 relay team recently won the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title, setting a school record in the process and qualifying for the NCAA Division III finals at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina.
In the 4 x 100, Jackson teamed with Kyle Lichttenegger, Matt Boone and Noah Anderson to post a winning time of 41.31 to edge runner-up St. John's by .12. Thanks to his team's stellar performance at the MIAC conference meet, Jackson and his teammates won all-MIAC honors for 2021.
Then, in the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships on Thursday, May 27, Jackson and his teammates raced to a 10th-place finish with a mark of 41.49, just missing out on a berth in the finals.
Simultaneously, Jackson — majoring in Business Intelligence & Analytics, and Marketing — has been playing as a defender for the Saint Mary's men's soccer team, which saw its season pushed into the spring of 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Cardinals are currently 2-2-1 overall.
