The West Linn boys soccer team defeat the Sunset Apollos 2-0 as they advance to the quarterfinal round of the OSAA State Soccer Championships.

Owen Caba of West Linn scores in the second half to put the Lions up 1-0 in their playoff game against Sunset High School in the OSAA 6A State Soccer Playoffs. The Lions would go on to in 2-0.

The West Linn Lions boys soccer team cleared another hurdle in their quest for soccer glory and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the state soccer championships.

The Three Rivers League champion Lions defeated the Sunset Apollos 2-0 Wednesday night at West Linn High School.

Even though the score was 0-0 at halftime, the Lions were the more dominant team. West Linn had more scoring opportunities, more possession and more shots on goal in the first half compared to Sunset. The Apollos defense was stout though, and were always in the right place, at the right time, to thwart the Lions.

West Linn senior Owen Caba changed that shortly after halftime scoring for the Lions on an assist from senior Maxwell Kelley. Caba returned the favor about 10 minutes later by assisting Kelley on the Lions second goal of the game making the score 2-0. That was all West Linn needed, holding the Apollos at bay and earning the clean sheet.

West Linn advances to the quarterfinals of the OSAA Boys State Soccer Championships with a game at South Eugene scheduled for this Saturday. South Eugene defeated West Salem 2-1 on Wednesday to advance in the playoffs. They have an overall record of 14-2 and are ranked as the #3 team in the state.
