New Year resolutions for your car
With the fresh start of a new year, many people make personal resolutions to get in shape, lose weight or clean up the house. But what about your car? Afterall, you spend hours in it, so consider a few resolutions to keep your car in shape, too.
1. Schedule maintenance. Those oil change window decal reminders can fall off, instead, use your phone's calendar to schedule out oil changes and needed car maintenance. Maintaining your car properly will save you money and hassle in the long run.
2. Clean it out. How many insurance cards do you have in the glove box? Keep the current one and shred the rest. Three-day old fries on the floor? Believe it or not, mice can easily access the inside of your car and quickly make a mess. When was the last time you waxed your car? A protective barrier will help prevent chips and discoloration to the paint. And while cleaning it out, make sure you have exactly what you'll need for an emergency: ice scraper, lug wrench, jack, functional spare tire, or roadside service numbers.
3. Consider your driving habits. Resolve to run your car efficiently and care for the body. Avoid potholes and standing water, both of which can damage your car and keep your tires pressured accurately to ensure proper tire traction, ride quality and mpg.
4. Hydrate! Ample fluids like antifreeze and oil will help keep your car running smoothly.
