Clackamas Town Center hosts a memorial and candlelight vigil titled “Remembrance and Resolve” from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, the one-year anniversary of the shootings at the mall. Held on the north side of the shopping center near the theater, the public vigil will include a moment of silence for the victims.

West Linn High School’s Choir will begin the vigil. Speakers will include clergy and members of the victims’ families.

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America’s Oregon Chapter will host a memorial event called “No More Silence” Saturday, Dec. 14, starting at 10 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Salem, 5090 Center St., in honor of the 20 children and six adults murdered one year ago at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

This vigil asks concerned citizens to join moms across the nation to make noise about gun reform. Moms in Oregon will honor the Newtown and Clackamas victims — and all victims of gun violence — through bell ringing in lieu of a moment of silence.

Members of Moms Demand Action will call on Congress to immediately enact common-sense reforms such as comprehensive background checks for gun purchases. The grassroots movement’s members have been instrumental in securing significant legislative victories at the state and local levels, including the passage of strong new gun laws in California, Connecticut, Colorado, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and New York.
