District 26 includes city of Wilsonville

State Rep. John Davis filed for re-election last week for Oregon House District 26, which covers Wilsonville.

by: SUBMITTED - DAVIS“I’m running because I love my family and I love the state of Oregon, and serving in the Legislature is my calling to serve both for two more years,” Davis said in his announcement. “Representing and learning from citizens of Wilsonville, Sherwood, King City, Bull Mountain, Hillsboro, Aloha, Tigard and Beaverton has increased my commitment to, and optimism about, the future we will pass on to my 2-year old son William and his soon-to-be born sibling.”

Davis is a fourth-generation Oregonian and lives in Wilsonville with his wife and their children. In his law practice, he assists entrepreneurs, nonprofits, farmers and businesses in transactions involving business law, finance, real estate and estate planning.

He graduated summa cum laude from George Fox University and spent a year with the AmeriCorps VISTA program where he served as programs director for a community nonprofit organization. Deciding to then pursue a degree in law, he attended Willamette University College of Law.

Davis currently serves as president of Emerging Leaders for Oregon, which works to identify young leaders to serve in political and civic roles. Locally, John is a board member with Wilsonville Young Life.

He cites education as one of his top priorities.

“Oregonians have made it clear to me personally, and in survey after survey, that educating our children is our top priority. Yet we’ve created a system with some of the shortest school years, largest class sizes and lowest per capita spending on K-12 and higher education in the country,” he said.

He also listed the environment, poverty and unemployment as areas of concern.

His list of successes this year in Legislature include increased funding for education, extended services and medical relief for seniors and investments in the mental health system.

“It wasn’t perfect and it wasn’t easy, but we got it done,” he said. “If we continue working together, and keep striving toward the structural changes that will make a difference for decades to come, then we can give my children, and yours, a state they can be proud to live in and serve.”
