Longtime Wilsonville Library salwart is recognized at a Rotary summer concert

Wilsonville resident Hilly Alexander was presented last week by the city of Wilsonville with the 2014 “Heart of the City” volunteer award.

The award is given to volunteers who contribute the most to the Wilsonville by way of community service. This year’s award was presented by city councilors Julie Fitzgerald and Susie Stevens at the Aug. 7, Rotary Club of Wilsonville summer concert.

“Over the past 13 years Hilly has donated thousands of hours of volunteer service to the Wilsonville Public Library and served on numerous library boards as well,” Fitzgerald said. “It is volunteers like her that make Wilsonville a great community.”

During the presentation a long list of Alexanders’s contributions to the Wilsonville Public Library were cited, including:

* A total of 13 years of volunteering for the Wilsonville Public Library beginning in 2001

* Volunteering a total of 5,900 hours including shelving, sorting and checking in material

* Seven years on the Wilsonville Library Foundation, serving as the Foundation’s President in 2013 when she helped raise over $25,000 and currently serving as the organization’s Development Director

* Serving seven years on the Library Board where she is currently the organization’s Board Chair

* Leading a team of 100 volunteers to help pass the Wilsonville campaign for the Library District which was approved by 67 percent of local voters in 2008

“Hilly Alexander is an extraordinary volunteer and her willingness to give back to our community is truly remarkable,” said Stevens.

The Heart of the City Award is handed out each year by the city to recognize and encourage individuals who embody the spirit and dedication of volunteerism, have a long history of volunteering for the City and have made a positive difference in the community as a result of their volunteer efforts.
