Help firefighters 'fill the boot' for charity
Don't be alarmed if you see men in uniform wandering the busy intersections of Wilsonville May 14, it's just the Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue firefighters helping raise money to fight muscular dystrophy in their off hours. They'll be collecting donations at the intersection of Wilsonville and Boones Ferry roads from 7 a.m to 4 p.m.
All funds collected through Tualatin Valley Firefighters Union Local 1660's 2019 Fill the Boot events support MDA's life-enhancing programs, including support groups and clinics, and assist families with medical equipment and costs. They also make MDA summer camp possible so kids with muscle diseases can enjoy a week of fun activities while gaining confidence and independence. MDA serves more than 1,800 families across the state of Oregon and Southwest Washington with more than 150 families in TVF&R's service area that are affected by muscular dystrophy.
To date, the International Association of Fire Fighters has raised more than $650 million for MDA. TVF&R firefighters have raised $797,000 since 2005 for the cause thanks to the generous support of the community.
