FILLING A NEED: Firefighters fight MD
With boots in tow, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue off-duty firefighters posted at the intersection of Southwest Boones Ferry and Wilsonville roads Tuesday, May 14, collected donations from motorists that will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, which funds research and assists people coping with the disease.
Among other programs, the Fll the Boot event, which also took place in Beaverton and Newberg last week, benefits MDA summer camps, groups and clinics, helps families attain medical equipment and covers costs, according to a TVF&R news release.
Between 2005 and 2018, TVF&R had raised $797,000 through the initiative, while the International Association of Fire Fighters raised more than $650 million.
