As part of National Drive Electric Vehicle Week, the Oregon Electric Vehicle Association is hosting an event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21 at World of Speed in Wilsonville where attendees can learn about and test drive many electric vehicles. The event is sponsored by Portland General Electric.
Some of the vehicle models that are expected to be available to drive include Audi e-tron, BMW i3 and 530e, Chevrolet Bolt EV, Nissan LEAF, Tesla Model 3, Honda Clarity Electric, Volkswagen e-Golf and a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Also, the City of Wilsonville will showcase its electric buses, which were designed by Proterra, and Freightliner Cascadia trailer trucks will be on display.
"It's quiet. It's relaxing. It's just different," OEVA President and Wilsonville resident Gary Exner said about driving an electric vehicle. "The biggest thing that sells people about electric cars is getting them to drive them."
Exner said the event is a perfect place for people to learn about the benefits and challenges of owning an electric vehicle.
"They should attend just because they'll get a chance to drive them in a low pressure environment without having to run from dealership to dealership and can talk to owners about what the challenges are of living with it day to day," Exner said. "We don't think everyone should drive an electric vehicle but it fits for some people."
The event will also include a raffle where winners will receive $2,500 off the purchase of an electric vehicle and information about the State of Oregon's electric vehicle rebate program will also available.
"We're very familiar with the available incentives and have a lot of owners who have gone through the process," Exner said.
