This was the second time in the last two months that the mail room was secured after receiving an unknown substance

The Coffee Creek Correctional Facility administrative building was evacuated 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8 after the mail room received an envelope with a powdery and unknown substance. A similar incident occured at the women's prison in Wilsonville in September.

Along with the evacuation, the mail room area was secured and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the Rescue Hazardous Materials Team and the Oregon State Police were on scene to determine if the power is a hazardous substance. Of the five employees who were in the mail room at the time, two were sent to a local hospital for evaluation.

During the Sept. 11 event, the state police determined that the substance was non-biological and non-controlled.
