A person steals a Cadillac and evades police before parking in a Portland apartment complex

COURTESY PHOTO: CLACKAMAS COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - Wilsonville Police chased a driver of a stolen vehicle to Portland Monday. Two Wilsonville Police officers were engaged in a car chase that ended in Portland early in the morning Monday, Feb. 10.

The episode began at about 2:41 a.m. when an officer noticed a person in a 2003 silver Cadillac DeVille driving down Wilsonville Road near I-5 with two tail lights out and a malfunctioning headlight. When an officer tried to conduct a traffic stop, the driver sped south on I-5. With two officers in two police cars chasing them, the driver then took Exit 278, headed north on I-5 and eventually traveled to I-84.

The officers continued the chase until losing sight of the driver at 141st and Stark Street. Soon after, the Portland Police Bureau found the empty car at the Arbor Glen apartment complex on 145th Avenue in Portland.

Police learned that the car had been stolen and contacted the owner. The car is still drivable.

Wilsonville Police Chief Rob Wurpes said Tuesday that the department was following up on evidence found in the car and reviewing surveillance but hadn't identified a suspect.

"It's still an active case and we feel we may have some leads we may follow up on," Wurpes said.
