Agreement still to be ratified, includes 2.1 percent raise above cost of living over three years

After a year of conversations and months of bargaining, Clackamas Community College's full-time faculty have come to a 3-year contract agreement with the college.

That agreement will be presented to faculty for a ratification vote, according to Adam Hall, a math instructor at the college.

The agreement comes just in the nick of time, allowing the parties to avoid mediation that was set to begin Feb. 14.

"This bargaining process has been a long journey of over a year," Hall said. "Along the way, faculty have been very supportive of their bargaining team, who listened to the collective faculty voice and dedicated long hours to the bargaining process. We are very grateful for their work…A fair and equitable agreement attracts and retains quality faculty whose mission is to serve students, and that is one of the keys to student success."

Hall said the full-timers wanted to thank the classified association members and the part-time faculty members for their support throughout the process.

The classified staff settled in December, but the Part-Time Faculty Association continues the process of bargaining with the college. Part-timers' main goal is to inch closer toward equality with full-time faculty.

"We will continue to support our Part-Time Faculty Association as they seek to reach a fair and equitable agreement for their members," Hall said.

For full-timers, with the new agreement, they'll see a 4.1 percent salary increase in the first year retroactive to July 1, 2019, a 2.9 percent increase in the second year and an increase amounting to the published cost of living plus 1.5 percent in the third year.

These increases amount to a total of 2.1 percent above the cost of living, spread out over the three years of the agreement.

According to Hall, the increases will "help our members regain some lost purchasing power."

Additionally, healthcare will increase 7 percent each year, the longevity bonus increased from 1 to 2 percent and department chair pay increased from 6 to 7 percent.
