The Wilsonville City Council approved a $19.7 million contract with Emerick Construction to build a Public Works complex at its Aug. 1 meeting.

The new center will be located on SW Boberg Road near the Wilsonville Transit Center and will include a large yard for storing materials and park equipment, as well as a temperature-regulated warehouse to hold equipment during winter months, Public Works Director Delora Kerber said at the meeting.

The building could be completed as early as the spring of 2024. Construction of the facility was planned as part of the city's $285.1 million budget for 2022-23.

In 2015, the city completed a city facilities master plan, performing a diagnosis of all the city's buildings and deficiencies. The police and public works share the same building, and one of the deficiencies cited was not having a separate building for each. Public works needed an administrative office and space for equipment. COURTESY PHOTO: CITY OF WILSONVILLE - The $19.7 million project could be completed as early as the spring of 2024.

"We (looked at) the space that you would allocate for people to be able to do their function both administratively as well as equipment and functionally. Right now we are bursting at the seams for administrative locations," she said. "We knew that needed to change."
