Newspaper honored with nine awards in 2022 Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association Better Newspaper Contest.

The Wilsonville Spokesman news team was honored with nine awards for excellence in writing and photography in the 2022 Better Newspaper Contest sponsored by the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association.

The Spokesman was also honored with a second place General Excellence award, ONPA's highest honor for a newspaper recognizing overall excellence in writing, design, photography and advertising.

"I'm really proud of our entire newsroom," said publisher J. Brian Monihan. "Corey Buchanan and Miles Vance have worked very hard under some difficult conditions to provide as much coverage as possible every week for the Wilsonville community.

"I'm also very proud of Patrick Malee and his leadership in helping us earn a second place General Excellence award. This is the highest placement the Spokesman has earned in a very long time, and being named as one of the best weekly newspapers in Oregon is really special."

The 2022 Better Newspaper Contest awards for the Spokesman included:

General Excellence — Second Place — Wilsonville Spokesman

Best Coverage of Business and Economic Issues — Second Place — Corey Buchanan

Best Feature Story: General — First Place — Corey Buchanan

Best Feature Story: Personality — First Place — Corey Buchanan

Best Lifestyle Coverage — Third Place — Corey Buchanan

Best Sports Story — Third Place — Miles Vance

Best Writing — First Place — Corey Buchanan

Best Government Coverage — Second Place — Corey Buchanan

"Being acknowledged by our peers is always appreciated, but the people who matter the most to us are you — our subscribers," Monihan said. "Without your ongoing support, local journalism wouldn't be possible here in Wilsonville."
