Aurora runway extension only good for a few
I read your Dec. 5 article on the public hearing in Wilsonville for the Aurora Airport runaway extension with great interest because I missed the meeting.
Those in favor of the extension do so for profit and/or convenience. Those oppose do so to avoid lowering their quality of life. It is not only the noise that more and larger planes bring to nearby residences but additional traffic and pollution, which will affect Aurora, Wilsonville, Canby etc.
The I-5 freeway cannot handle the current traffic and the airport road is only two lanes, one in each direction.
Will more land be required for warehouses and parking lots, etc.. ?
There is an airport in Salem that has a 6,000-foot runway that is better equipped to handle the traffic and the vehicles in Salem do not require smog checks due to less pollution in the area.
Why should all the taxpayers (us) pay for the profit and convenience of the few?
