Much of our board's success can be attributed to the work ethic and character of Chelsea King Martin.

For the past two years, I have been humbled to serve on the West Linn-Wilsonville School Board. In a time when it seems much of our government is marked by gridlock and dysfunction, I am proud to be part of a board that is instead defined by a productive and congenial environment.

When I see the faces of my four fellow board members on Monday evenings, I am sincerely happy to see each one, and I know good work is about to be accomplished.

Among government boards and councils, this is too rare.

Much of our board's success can be attributed to the work ethic and character of Chelsea King Martin. In my two years serving alongside King Martin, I have been impressed by the devotion she has to our schools. When a board volunteer is needed, and I am thinking, "How can I fit in one more volunteer activity," King Martin is right there.

The district needed a board liaison to the Long Range Planning Committee; King Martin was there. The district asked for board members to take part in the School and Student Safety Advisory Committees; King Martin was there. Two years ago when the board took on two new members and needed a veteran to take on the role of vice-chair, King Martin was there, too. And she juggles all of this while raising three children in our district, coaching youth sports, and finding ways to stay connected to our communities.

We live in perhaps the strongest school district in the state. This makes our kids' lives better, our families stronger, and our communities more desirable. One factor in making this possible is a high-functioning and productive school board. We have that right now. I am urging our communities to keep that.

King Martin's challenger in this race seems to be a fine person running a noble campaign, but I have not heard a reason why our communities should lose a board member of King Martin's caliber.

I am excited to see what King Martin can accomplish in a second term with her wide array of talents and selfless spirit. Please join me in voting Chelsea King Martin for WL-WV School Board.

Dylan Hydes was elected to the board in 2016.
