Recently, the small group of people trying to excuse Commissioner Mark Shull's racist behavior have turned from defending the indefensible to attacking an innocent bystander.
Somehow, in their minds, Commissioner Sonya Fischer is orchestrating the campaign to recall Mark Shull. This group is spreading outright falsehoods on Facebook and in front of the Commission, claiming, for example, that Commissioner Fischer was never elected (she was appointed in 2017 and then elected in 2018) and that it was Commissioner Fischer who released Shull's Facebook postings to media outlets. Les Poole's recent letter ("Opinion: Commissioner Sonya Fischer would have lost election, too," April 8) is a prime example of this deflection strategy.
Let's make several things very clear:
• Sonya Fischer did not release Mark Shull's postings to the media. I did.
• I have never spoken to Sonya Fischer.
• Sonya Fischer has not donated any money, time or anything else to the campaign to recall Mark Shull.
Commissioner Fischer's attackers have demanded many times that she provide evidence of Mark Shull's racism by trying to bait her into the very behavior they are claiming she engages in. She has refused to rise to that bait. But I will. You can see the evidence yourself, documented and annotated, at https://recallmarkshull.com/?page_id=746
