With collaboration, generosity of spirit and a commitment to our kids, there is nothing as a community we cannot achieve.

As a 17-year resident of West Linn, the owner of 3 businesses in downtown Willamette and the parent of two daughters in the WLWV school district, I know that these are turbulent times for everyone. I also know that with collaboration, generosity of spirit and a commitment to our kids, there is nothing as a community we cannot achieve. Taylor

I have chosen to spend my campaign time speaking with existing WLWV board members, meeting with district leadership and teachers, building relationships with other candidates, speaking on panels and meeting directly with families to prepare myself for the responsibility and tasks that face our District. What I have taken away from each of these meetings is a sense of hope. Hope that our students will safely and immediately get back to full-time school, hope that new opportunities and ways of learning can be adopted into our curriculum with respect for all family's value systems, hope that our next School Board functions as a team and considers all students in their strategic decisions, and above all a hope that our District continues its strong history of academic excellence.

I have served for 14-years in the Oregon University System as a Board Member. My experience there helped shape my vision for how I plan to represent our children, schools, families, teachers and entire community. It is not what we intend to do but what we do that counts. I want every family in our District, especially those that have been traditionally underserved, to know that I will be accessible and available to support their needs no matter what. My family has personally faced adversity in our district, but I have also found great support too. We need consistency in our outreach and support to ensure that all stakeholders from staff to families have a voice and are able to access and fully engage with the School Board.

Some of my priorities and initiatives are to:

• Open schools safely, efficiently and immediately to 5 days a week full time;

• Create Board Liaison positions to improve communication and outreach to vital District stakeholders such as: teachers, classified staff, and student and family affinity groups;

• Create a Board-led Community Communication Committee, a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Committee, and a Sustainability Committee;

• Enhance access to career and technical curriculum;

• Ensure sound oversight continues over our District's bond spending and budget;

n Work towards sound practices in all Board processes to build a culture of trust and transparency.

I truly believe our community need not be divided on the tough issues we face in our District, we can mend all things when we work together and have leaders committed to honoring all voices. My focus is, and will continue to be, on mending and sustaining our greatness. And even though my seat is not contested, I am asking and need your support. When you cast your vote on May 18th, please vote for Louis Taylor, WLWV School Board, Position 1. Thank you, and let's get to work!

Louis Taylor is running unopposed for position 1 on the West Linn-Wilsonville School Board.
