Schrader must act to reverse economic, climate injustice
Climate and economic injustice — I am asking Rep. Kurt Schrader to take constructive and bold action on these two injustices. Any injustice causes a reaction. The greater the extent and duration of the injustice, the greater the reaction. These reactions are usually negative.
For example, climate injustice has been largely ignored for the past twenty years. This has resulted in greater numbers and severity of storm events, droughts and more severe forest fires resulting in the loss of lives, homes and resources. The estimated cost in dollars is around $200 billion a year. This amount is approximately the same as the money needed to address the injustice and the ever-increasing negative reaction.
Similarly, the injustice of ever-increasing income inequality results in more homeless, hungry, unhealthy, under-educated, and suffering residents of the US. The reaction includes an increased distrust in and opposition to our do-little (except tax breaks to rich campaign donors) Congress and other governmental institutions. Some scholars say our economic system has become "greed-capitalism".
The tragic results of these two injustices are morally reprehensible. These two injustices require a firm commitment to bold vision and corrective action by Schrader and our entire Congress. Anything less is shirking responsibility.
Righteousness (includes justice) is defined as being/living in the right relationship with God, ourselves, other people and creation.
Climate justice is defined as respecting the inherent worth and ensuring the sustainability of the earth and its diverse elements.
Economic justice is defined as respecting the inherent worth and ensuring the basic needs of others.
