Wilsonville cross country teams dominate
The Wilsonville cross country teams competed in Canby this last Wednesday, Sept. 20 at Pat's Acres, and dominated. Both teams picked up first place against a plethora of competition.
On the boys side of things, senior Nicholas Whitaker blew away the competition by 26 seconds to take the top spot of the 5,000 meter race with a time of 16 minutes and 33.3 seconds (16:33.3). Fellow Wilsonville senior Jonathan Palmer claimed the third place spot with a time 17:21.59. Other top 10 finishers on the boys team include junior Jack Burns who took fifth place with a time of 18:00.79 (a personal best); junior Joseph Wilde, who took seventh with 18:07.2; and senior Hyrum Worth, who claimed ninth with 18:11.9.
The girls team had the majority of the top ten spots, with standout sophomore Samantha Prusse taking the top spot with a time of 19:57.09, just edging out Brigid Hanley of La Salle by two seconds. Spots four through nine were claimed by Wilsonville runners junior Kaitlyn Dougall (20:27.8), junior Kate Stewart (20:28.09, a personal best), senior Krista Herlin (20:28.5, a personal best), freshman Ava Stenstrom (21:03.2), junior Angel Bohn (21:15.5), and junior Sophia Somerscales (21:15.8, a season best), respectively.
Wilsonville's next cross country meet will be the HOKA One One 2 Mile Postal Challenge on Thursday, Sept. 28 in Silverton.
