Wilsonville swim teams blow out Sandy in Tualatin Pool
Tualatin—Against an underrepresented Sandy Pioneers swim team, the Wilsonville Wildcats dominated the events on Friday, Jan. 26. The event took place at the Tualatin High School Pool. The boys team defeated their opponents 117-45, while the girls team did even better with a tally of 138-16.
To start things off, the girls team took first, second, and third place in the 200-yard medley relay, with the first place team of Sarah Carr, Abigail Maoz, Jensen Lorio, and Kayla Leon-Guerrero recording a time of 2:01.57.
The girls team kept things going with Maoz and Carr claiming the top spots in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley, respectively. Both girls did so with improvements to their personal records of greater than two seconds: Maoz at a time of 2:02.2, and Carr with 2:14.61 in her race.
Leon-Guerrero claimed first place in the 50-yard freestyle race at 27.57 seconds, and also took first place in the 100-yard freestyle race as well. Emily Nguyen, Jensen Lorio, and Sierra Bishop swept the 100-yard butterfly race.
The girls 200-yard freestyle race also saw a trio of teams from Wilsonville sweep the top spots. Nguyen, Bishop, junior Michelle Stevens, and junior Alexis Leon-Guerrero were the top team with a time of 2:06.44.
Sarah Carr took first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.44. Maoz took first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a tally of 1:04.82, an improvement of 2.22 seconds. Rounding out the action for the girls team was a clean sweep of the 400-yard freestyle relay.
On the boys side of things, Davis Armitage took second place in the 200-yard freestyle race, but improved his overall time by an astounding 15.78 seconds, coming in at 2:22.6.
Vincent Nguyen took first place in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:24.64, as well as the 500-yard freestyle in just 5:50.16.
Cade Butterworth took first place in the 50-yard freestyle event with a time of 25.7 seconds, as well as the 100-yard freestyle race with a time of 1:00.37 seconds. Wesley Norris took the top spot 100-butterfly race with a time of 54.59 seconds, a 0.19 second improvement.
James Weiser was first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:26.79.
Armitage, Nguyen, Butterworth, and Norris came in first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:45.02. Finally, in the 400-yard freestyle relay, Nguyen, Butterworth, Norris, and junior Aneesh Gupta claimed first place with a time of 3:55.87.
Wilsonville's swim teams will next compete against La Salle at the North Clackamas Aquatic Park on Friday, Feb. 2.
