SUBMITTED PHOTO - Wilsonville Wildcats The game between Wilsonville and Sandy on Tuesday, Feb. 6 also served as a fundraiser for Lola Cruz Johnson.

Johnson is 15 months old, and was diagnosed with leukemia on January 1. She spent 32 days at Doernbecher for treatment and will go back for another 28 days for more treatment later on this week.

Michael Johnson, Lola's father, used to coach both Wyatt Fisher (Sandy) and Caleb Larsen (Wilsonville) back when they played for Johnson's Beaverton based AAU team in junior high. When they found out what was going on with the Johnson family, they wanted to help in any way that he could.

"Me and Caleb have been friends for a long time, so when all that stuff had happened, we really wanted to do something about it and this was our chance to do it," Fisher said. "Coach Johnson has had a big impact on my life and I saw this as an opportunity to give back."

As the ASB Vice President, Fisher was able to organize an "Orange Night" for leukemia awareness. with the Sandy student section. Fisher and Larsen each addressed the crowd before the game and both shared their admiration for Coach Johnson. At halftime, exactly $1,000 was raised for Lola's medical fund.

"I can't imagine what they are all going through," Larsen said about the Johnson family. "I hope that this fundraiser can help them out."
