Wilsonville girls claim second at state meet
In what was another largely successful season for the Wilsonville cross country teams, one group of Wildcat athletes made it onto the podium at the state meet in Eugene Saturday, Nov. 3 at Lane Community College.
After a grueling 20 minutes, 52 seconds (20:52) the final Wilsonville girl had crossed the finish line. Overall, the girls team finished in second place with a score of 94 points behind Hood River Valley with 43 points.
In the top spot for the Wildcats was junior Samantha Prusse with a final time of 18:59, which was good for sixth place. In three appearances at the state meet, this marks Prusse's highest finish, having placed 15th last year and 20th as a freshman.
Following the top Wildcat runner was younger sister and freshman Gabrielle Prusse in 13th place with a time of 19:31. That time was a personal best for the freshman, beating her previous record by seven seconds. Sophomore Sydney Burns was the next finisher, taking 16th place with a 19:42, also a personal record (PR).
Senior Kaitlyn Dougall was next for the Wildcats, coming in 32nd with a time of 20:33, followed by fellow senior Angel Bohn with a time of 20:36 in 36th. Senior Kate Stewart finished in 42nd place with a time of 20:49, and senior Sophia Somerscales came in 44th with a time of 20:52.
The boys' side of the team did not finish as high as its female counterpart, but still put forth a solid effort. Wilsonville took ninth place with a score of 181, beating out fellow Northwest Oregon Conference foes Parkrose and Scappoose handily.
Led by senior Jack Burns in 12th place with a time of 16:40, the next Wildcats to cross the finish line were freshman Jacob McClelland in 25th with a time of 17:06 and sophomore Ben Sheirbon in 50th with a time of 17:40.
After those two, in back to back places of 52nd and 53rd were seniors Trevor Johnson (17:44) and Joseph Wilde (17:45). Finishing up for Wilsonville were freshman Ben McClelland in 73rd with a time of 18:33, and sophomore Josh Aguilar in 77th place with a time of 18:40.
