After league championships, Wilsonville claimed yet more awards at state meet

ARCHIVE PHOTO: TANNER RUSS - Samantha Prusse, the NWOC champion, also received all-state honors.The boys and girls cross country teams both earned dual meet championships in the Northwest Oregon Conference (NWOC) on the backs of undefeated seasons. Another feather in the cap of the program was junior Samantha Prusse, who was the Girls NWOC League Champion.

As expected with the success of the program, several all-league honors were imparted to the Wilsonville athletes.

First team honors went to Prusse, sophomore Sydney Burns and freshman Gabrielle Prusse for consistently being in the top spots of each race. On the boys side, senior Jack Burns was awarded first team honors as well.

Second team distinctions for the boys squad went to senior Trevor Johnson, sophomore Ben Sheirbon, freshman Ben McClelland, senior Joseph Wilde and freshman Jacob McClelland. On the girls team, seniors Angel Bohn, Kate Stewart and Kaitlyn Dougall received the honors. The Boys Coach of the Year was head coach David Barkley.

At the state meet, the girls team took silver overall, and received several all-state awards as a result. Samantha Prusse earned first team honors, and younger sister Gabriella Prusse earned second team honors. Sydney Burns was a third team honoree.

Though the boys team did not place as highly (ninth place overall), they did garner a pair of all-state awards. Jack Burns was named second team all-state, and freshman Jacob McClelland was awarded an honorable mention.
