With several first place finishers, the Wildcats athletes creep closer to school records

Wilsonville's track teams picked up another pair of victories this past week, this time against Putnam and Parkrose. On Wednesday, April 24 the boys' team downed Putnam 106-39, and Parkrose 90-49. The girls' team dominated Putnam 98-47, and Parkrose even more impressively 123-19.

It was near dominance across the board. Freshman Kellen Hartford took first place in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 17.29 seconds. That mark also put him 20th on the school's all-time record list.

Senior Mike Church picked up first place in both the shot put and javelin, and was joined by sophomore Jake Moore in throwing domination when the latter picked up first in the discus. Moore's throw of 141 feet, 4.5 inches (141'4.5") put him seventh on the school's record list.

Freshman Cooper Becklin took first place in the high jump with a bound of 5'11", a personal best. Freshman Luke Nelson took first place in the pole vault with a mark of 10'6".

On the girls' team, senior Jilian Greene took first place in the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.06, and freshman Gabriella Prusse took first place in the 800 with a time of 2:31.72, a personal best.

Junior Samantha Prusse took first place in the 3,000 meters with a run of 10:42.91, the fifth fastest time in school history. Hurdlers Kylee Rusher, Carly Shanklin, and Gabi Bean swept the top three spots in the meet. Shanklin and Bean also took first and second respectively in the 300-meter hurdles.

For the throwers, senior Lauren LaFreniere took first place in the shot put with a throw of 34'7". In the discus, sophomore Madison Jones threw for 106'3", seven inches shy of her PR. Lastly but not least, senior Delaney Dougherty threw for 118'8" in the javelin. Dougherty is second on the all-time list behind record holder Rebecca Wentz.
