Roche, Dean, Brehm and Ogden head to state
Jack Roche returns to the state tournament one last time.
Wilsonville's No. 1 singles player won the district tournament held at Parkrose High School on Friday, May 10. After entering the tournament as the No. 1 seed, he lived up to the reputation he built up over the course of the season. Joining him will be sophomore Jackson Dean who entered the district meet as the fourth seed, but finished in third place.
"Jack Roche is No. 1, and then Jackson Dean is an up-and-coming sophomore in singles who is very good," coach Mark Sundquist said about his players ahead of the district meet. "He pushes Jack very hard. Then our No. 1 doubles ... Zach Brehm and Nate Ogden, they went to state last year, and should get back."
That prediction was accurate. Brehm and Ogden battled their way through the district tournament to claim second place, coming up short against La Salle senior Nico Hey and sophomore Wade Nichols.
The state tournament kicks off Friday, May 17. In the opening round, Roche will face off with Corvallis freshman Rowan Mosher in the opening round. Dean meets the No. 2 seed from Crescent Valley, junior Bojan Soskic. Brehm and Ogden meet up with other Corvallis representatives, sophomore Eddie Hu and senior Lukas Reinkenobbe. The state tennis championships take place at the Portland Tennis Center.
