Led by Karra Kaiser, Wildcats beat South Albany, North Bend to take top five spot

PMG FILE PHOTO: LON AUSTIN - Wilsonvilles Karra Kaiser was the best golfer at the state golf match. The Wilsonville girls golf team beat out South Albany and North Bend to take the fifth spot at the state golf tournament at Quail Valley Golf Course on May 13 and 14. The Wildcats shot 432 in the first round and 411 in the second round for a total score of 843.

Sophomore Karra Kaiser led the way with a two-round score of 199 to end up 55 over par, and a strong second round particularly, shooting a 95. Kaiser recorded four pars in the second round and none in the first.

Junior Ali Nelson finished the tournament tied for 20th with a total score of 208. Nelson had a rough first round, shooting 111 over 18 holes that included two triple bogeys and a disastrous sixth hole. As rough a start as that was, Nelson turned it around in the second round. The junior made par twice and limited the number of strokes on the second round, cutting 14 strokes off her first day total.

Senior Sabyn Thorne finished the tournament tied at 28th with Pendleton sophomore Gracie Broadfoot with a total score of 217, 73 above par. Across both days of play, Thorne shot five pars.

Right behind her was teammate and Wilsonville junior Penelope Mitchell who took 30th place with a two-day score of 219. The second round was the most fruitful for Mitchell, who shot 108 with a 54 on the front and back nines.

Emma Kaleikilo and Samantha Wettstein finished in 42nd place with a combined score of 271.
