With a 15-3 NWOC record, Wilsonville heads to Pendleton for first round of playoffs

PMG FILE PHOTO: TANNER RUSS - Wilsonville senior Nolan Thebiay has been a leader from the mound. Wilsonville's baseball team very nearly had itself a league championship, but an early league loss to La Salle Prep changed its trajectory.

The Wildcats finished their league season with a 15-3 Northwest Oregon Conference (NWOC) record, tied with La Salle Prep in terms of overall wins and losses. What kept Wilsonville out of the top spot entirely was a pair of back to back victories the Falcons collected in the league opener series. Wilsonville earned a win in the third encounter 12-7 on April 5, and didn't look back.

From that point on the Wildcat baseball team racked up a 16-1 record, including sweeps of St. Helens, Milwaukie, Scappoose, Putnam and a nonconference victory over 6A Bend.

Currently ranked seventh in the state, Wilsonville (19-8) will make the long road trip to Pendleton (15-8) to battle it out in the opening round of the playoffs on Wednesday, May 22.
