That's because "the future" has been tearing it up on the diamond for five straight years.

The Wilsonville Senior American baseball team just became league champions for the fifth straight year under coach Brian Keswick. The core of the group of this team — Bradley Keswick, Gregory Keswick, Kellen Arthur, Ryan Soderlund, Cooper Hiday, Logan Miller and Kallen Gutridge — has been playing together all five years. Five of them — both Keswicks, Arthur, Soderlund and Hiday — are incoming freshmen at Wilsonville High.

This summer's team also includes Amari Hodges, Jay Rummell-West, Cooper Adams, D.J. Gillette and Gunner Gillette.

The Senior American team, which competes in Junior Baseball of Oregon, won its league while suffering just one loss (to North Marion) along the way. In fact, over its five years together, the team has only lost six times in league play.

In 2015, the team's first year, the Keswicks, Arthur, Soderlund, Hiday, Miller and Gutridge made the roster for the league's Midget American team. They went on to win their league, place second in the county tournament and finish first at state.

The success just kept coming, with the team taking first place in league every year since — five years in a row now — including this summer.

The Senior American team just concluded its 2019 county tournament, beating Grant and Roosevelt in its first two games to earn a berth in the state tournament, then falling to North Marion and Roosevelt.

Next up, Wilsonville will face Banks in the first round of the state tournament, set for 11:30 a.m. Friday at Fischer's Mill Sports Complex in Oregon City.

*The original version of this story neglected to include Logan Miller and Kallen Gutridge as five-year team members; in its Midget year, Wilsonville finished second in its county tournament; in this year's county tournament, Wilsonville beat Grant and Roosevelt in its first two games.
