Barkley takes top honors at the district meet and her Wildcats take first place, too.

The Wilsonville girls cross country team wanted it all.

And that's exactly what the Wildcats got.

   Wilsonville finished its 2021 season with a flourish, running to victory at the Northwest Oregon Conference district meet, held at Portland International Raceway on Thursday, April 8.

The Wildcats — coached by David Barkley — did it by following the lead of senior Aurora Barkley. She raced to victory in the 30-runner field with a winning time of 19 minutes, 16.20 seconds to beat Putnam senior runner-up Kayla Ingraham (20:47.20) by more than 1 1/2 minutes.

Aurora Barkley and Wilsonville's team strength — the Cats' other varsity runners finished eighth through 12th and 17th — added up to a team title with 39 points. The complete team scoring included: Wilsonville 39, Putnam 52, La Salle 53, Scappoose 84.

After Aurora Barkley, Wilsonville's varsity runners included: junior Esme' Krause (eighth at 22:57.90); junior Sarah Somerscales (ninth at 23:09.20); senior Katrina Brisbois (10th at 23:37.00); freshman Ella Milanovich (11th at 23:42.50); junior Gabriella Prusse (12th at 23:51.20); and freshman Sophia Gordon (17th at 24:50.10).

Highlights for other local teams included: Putnam saw senior Kayla Ingraham finish second at 20:47.20 and sophomore Kendra Heath take sixth at 21:34.20; and for La Salle, senior Charlotta Schreuder was third at 21:00.00 and junior Erin McGinnis placed fifth at 21:34.30.
